Nest of Roots (A Sonnet)

GiaB writing prompt #14 being in nature

Go up this mountain for the second time, Today. Call for my dog I couldn’t find. I turned my head a second, while I climbed, And lost my Shadow, above the tree line.

It quickly became much too dark to see, I fall into the stream, down the wrong side, Of the mountain, my stick in front of me. Hope I don’t hit a bear, nature’s my guide.

As soon as I decide to sleep up here, I almost fall into a nest of roots, In the middle of the stream, disappear, Pull up some leaves, sleep away, nature’s truce.

The next week Shadow was waiting for me, On the mountain top, happy as can be.
