Summary

The website content discusses the creation of a new poetic form, the "L'Anthirick," by Tree Langdon in collaboration with Anthi Psomiadou, as a playful response to Anthi's non-rhyming five-line poems initially mislabeled as limericks.

Abstract

Tree Langdon and Anthi Psomiadou, who have formed a close friendship through their interactions on Medium, have engaged in a creative exchange that led to the invention of the "L'Anthirick." This new form emerged from a misunderstanding where Anthi referred to her five-line poems as limericks, despite their lack of the traditional aabba rhyming pattern. In response, Tree coined the term "L'Anthirick" to describe these poems, showcasing their unique collaborative process. They have co-created several pieces, often naming each other's works, and have set personal challenges that push the boundaries of their creative expression. Their work is celebrated in the "ChannSpirations and Coincidences" publication on Medium, where they invite other writers to share stories of synchronicity that have influenced their writing.

Opinions

  • Tree Langdon values precision in artistic terminology and believes Anthi's poems, while not traditional limericks, are distinct and valuable as "L'Anthiricks."
  • Anthi Psomiadou appreciates the playful and creative aspects of their collaboration, acknowledging that the deviation from traditional limerick form led to the creation of something new and beautiful.
  • Both authors enjoy the process of challenging each other and find joy in the synchronicities that arise from their partnership.
  • They encourage other writers to explore and write about the serendipitous aspects of their creative processes, suggesting that these experiences can breathe new life into their stories.

Tree Langdon I read your challenge too quickly and wrote this tanka before I realized the true nature of your challenge:

Anthi wrote five lines She called it a limerick But there were no rhymes I soothed her disappointment I named it a L’Anthirick

Explanation:

Anthi Psomiadou had published this great piece:

Anthi and I are close friends though in this life cycle we have only met on Medium. In fact, Anthi inspired this tanka of mine:

Mind reads strangers’ texts assigning words my own voice Third-eye hears old friends’ distinctly familiar yet no conscious memory

The decoder ring is here:

Given our closeness, Anthi and I frequently co-create. I often ask her to name pieces that I have written. Here are three of those:

We also frequently challenge each other. I pointed out that her poems in Opinion did not meet the definition of a limerick, which are five lines with an aabba rhyming pattern.

So I made up the word L’Anthirick

Anthi wrote five lines She called it a limerick But there were no rhymes I soothed her disappointment I named it a L’Anthirick

Here is how this played out. For fun and games and personal challenge, I also transformed one of Anthi’s poems into a proper limerick. Anthi had written:

I put my hand in my head, I took my opinions and put them on a shelf. Stay there at least for tonight. Leave space for the knowledge to arise. They shut their mouths and I slept.

Building off Anthi’s deep piece, I proposed to her:

“I put my hand in my head I took my opinions and put them to bed Stay there at least for tonight Leave space for the knowledge to arrive at first light They shut their mouths while my mind read”

Anthi loved that transformation, saying:

“It’s very beautiful! And, in parallel, I still see similar sounds to my choices/endings. It feels OK in me, so I don’t have a problem with readers who won’t think of these as limericks. Maybe, it’s my way of “limericking” for now. 🙂”

To which I replied:

“I just tend to be a purest when terms of art are used and I think you appreciate that — what you wrote are L’Anthiricks!! and great ones!!!”

Anthi replied:

“You see? If I had written them with perfect rhymes, how this smart and beautiful “mame” would not have been created by you? : P I like it!”

To which I replied:

“SYNCHRONICITY”

Thus, I almost housed this piece in Anthi’s and my co-creation:

Where we celebrate synchronicities and the every-person-portal.

I read stories all over Medium every day that involve coincidences, whether or not the writer even discussed that aspect in their piece. Attention writers: write about the synchronicities that aided the creation of your prior work and give those stories additional life in C&C.

Yet, as Tree started this chain in Claire’s pub, I published it here.
