Nek Minit The Oscar Goes To The Dog
Buffy the trickster dog is a playful and sneaky Jack Russell who enjoys an ‘I’ll keep you on your toes’ relationship with human mum Mary

I first saw Buffy at the local SPCA. I thought Buffy was a puppy. Buffy the Jack Russell was almost two years old. It was her attitude that sealed her spot in the passenger seat of my grey Mitsubishi and my heart.
On our walks, children would stop and ask if they could pat ‘the puppy’. Buffy was always up for it — love it, love it!
Buffy is a wonderful dog, most of the time. When she is not a wonderful dog, Buffy is a trickster. Two years after I brought her home the trickster behavior began. There have been a few tricks played on me over the years. Most are annoying, at the time. Later I would laugh at the funny side. Below is a trick Buffy has played on me a couple of times over the years.
Your dog is limping says a passer-by
Mary turns and looks at the Jack Russell
Buffy limps forward
Moving slowly
Mary kneels and lifts Buffy’s paw for a closer look
Buffy shows no sign of pain
You should take the dog to the vet says the passer-by
Mary lifts Buffy and walks back to the car
and places Buffy in the passenger seat
Mary secretly watches Buffy as she drives
Buffy secretly watches Mary
Mmmm…thinks Mary
She drives home
Once inside the house Mary places Buffy on the kitchen floor
Mary stacks the dirty dishes
she fills the sink with hot soapy water
and begins to wash the dishes
Mary turns slightly to her left keeping Buffy in her peripheral
Secretly watching Buffy
Secretly watching Mary
Buffy takes a few steps toward the kitchen table
Limping
Buffy stops
Still watching Mary
Mary is still washing the dishes
Buffy continues walking towards the kitchen table
Limping
Once under the table she stops
Again Buffy watches Mary
Mary is still at the kitchen sink
Buffy turns and walks toward her water bowl
No limp
Nek minit
Mmmm…
Buffy stops and slowly turns toward Mary
Mary is looking at Buffy
Her expression is not pretty
Oh ooohh
If you have trickster stories to share, I would be keen to read your stories and smile, laugh, and enjoy the funny side of living with our animals.
Thank you for reading this little piece.
Have a fabulous week!
