Summary

EA Sports is reviving the NCAA Football franchise, allowing players to be compensated for their likeness in the game, with each athlete receiving $600 for participation.

Abstract

The NCAA Football video game franchise is set to return after a hiatus, with the new edition including the option for players to be paid for their likeness. Each athlete who opts in will receive 600, marking a significant shift in the use of player likenesses in college sports video games. The game will feature rosters from all 134 FBS schools, with EA Sports committing to pay out approximately 6,834,000 to players across the teams. If players choose not to participate, generic avatars based on historical data will be created. The series' absence was due to a lawsuit over unpaid player likenesses, which led to its discontinuation in 2013. The return of the game could potentially open the door for other college sports to be featured in video games, with hopes for the revival of popular series like March Madness and College 2K Hoops. The author also reminisces about their personal experiences with the game, highlighting the excitement for the new playoff system and the Texas Longhorns' move to the SEC.

  • The author expresses a preference for the new playoff system and is eager to experience the Texas Longhorns' transition to the SEC within the game.
  • The author seems to appreciate the historical aspect of the game, as evidenced by the mention of generic players being based on the past skills of the last ten years for each position.

The NCAA Football franchise is finally coming back after an 11-year break from the virtual gridiron. Players will also finally get to be paid for their likeness to appear in the game.

How Much Will Each Player Get Paid?

All athletes that choose to appear in the game will receive $600. Around 85 players can be on the roster for each school, and all 134 FBS schools are included. In other words, EA Sports will be paying roughly $6,834,000 to use real players for each team.

If a player chooses not to be included, EA Sports will create a generic player that’s based on the past skills of the last ten years for that position for each school.

Why Hasn’t NCAA Football Been Available?

NCAA Football was one of the most popular sports games each year until a lawsuit involving players not getting compensated for their likeness forced the company to give up the series. EA Sports produced the game each year from 1997–2013.

It Paves the Way for Other Sports

I’m hoping the success of EA Sports College Football 25 will eventually allow other college sports to become available as video games. The more games and competition, the better!

March Madness was a popular college basketball game, and the College 2K Hoops series was an even better game. An NCAA baseball game will also be a great option, but it’s not nearly as popular compared to football and basketball.

My Favorite Memories

Buying NCAA Football as soon as it became available in late July and going through multiple seasons with my Texas Longhorns is one of my favorite memories. Nothing is quite as fun as recruiting new players and eventually winning the National Championship.

Also, a lot has changed since the game was last released. College Football now has a playoff system, and the Texas Longhorns are playing in the SEC. It will be fun to finally play again and compete with the best teams in the country.

I can’t wait until July!!!!!!!!!
