Abstract

teacher and finally friend. The calligram structure of the poem is done with the Fibonacci Sequence by applying a number value for each syllable in a word then using the sum of the two preceding words for the next stanza. For example in this poem I used 0–1–1–2–3–5–8 (which can go to infinity)then flipped the sequence back upon itself counting down 5–3–2–1–1–0 in order to create an illusion of breathing within the form of the piece.</p><p id="35e2">Additional poetry published on Medium by Christopher Madsen</p><div id="5057" class="link-block"> <a href="https://readmedium.com/please-dont-look-at-me-df5b5097e807"> <div> <div> <h2>Please Don’t Look At Me</h2> <div><h3>a poem concerning homelessness and guilt</h3></div> <div><p>medium.com</p></div> </div> <div> <div style="background-image: url(https://miro.readmedium.com/v2/resize:fit:320/1*67sE62KeUBQWcqVnhNzDfA.jpeg)"></div> </div> </div> </a> </div><div id="fd25" class="link-block"> <a href="https://readmedium.com/discarded-beauty-ec46bff5d5c3"> <div>

Nature’s Goddess is the Mother

A calligram poem offered as gratitude.

You are Mother in my life Teacher of loves needs Nature’s entrusted guardian Goddess defined your baby sleeping at night waking morning Sun a journey in time I’m learning to run among dreams finding sunlight shores returning sweet home again tired I’ve failed attempted independence escape missing Moms comfortable home among green pastures I did roam resting through dusk rising moonlight path create my own home beginning challenging tasks again I meet another a family wed born succesful my life is now shown inspired visions of love grown Mother who offered nurturing peace sleep

This poem was inspired by the many Mothers in my life who have guided their children through an ever changing relationship as parent to teacher and finally friend. The calligram structure of the poem is done with the Fibonacci Sequence by applying a number value for each syllable in a word then using the sum of the two preceding words for the next stanza. For example in this poem I used 0–1–1–2–3–5–8 (which can go to infinity)then flipped the sequence back upon itself counting down 5–3–2–1–1–0 in order to create an illusion of breathing within the form of the piece.
