TRAVEL SERIES

Natural Wonders Is the Best Way to Go!

Highlighting Earth’s beauty

Photo by Peter Conlan on Unsplash

If you follow the column Travel on Coffee Times, you may have already seen the prompt involving the Seven Manmade Wonders of the World but what about the natural ones? These are breathtaking places that should all be on our bucket list, they are all amazing!

Mount Everest

Photo by Andreas Gäbler on Unsplash

Mt. Everest is approximately 8, 847 meters tall! It has the highest peak above sea level and extreme hikers love to take on this challenge. It’s part of the Himalayan mountain range and is located alongside the border of China and Nepal. The Tibetan name is Chomolungma, which translates to “Mother Goddes of the World”, a perfect name! If you consider hiking to be too much of a risk, you can also take a tour flight. What an aerial view that would be!

The Nothern Lights

Photo by Johannes Groll on Unsplash

If you are traveling to the northern hemisphere, you must go and visit these Nothern Lights or Aurora Borealis. These dancing lights create a mesmerizing show in the sky but it can be a bit hard to plan a trip there as it only depends on solar flares. They are more frequently seen close to the Artice Circle. Alaska, Iceland, Norway, Northern Canada, Sweden, Greenland, and Finland are the places where locals can be in the presence of this natural phenomenon.

Paricutin Volcano

Photo by Jezael Melgoza on Unsplash

Another wonder is in Mexico! Woohoo! This volcano is located in the state of Michoacan and is the youngest one in the Northern Hemisphere. It surged up out of the ground in 1943 being 1952 the year when it last erupted. You can venture up this volcano, see sandy banks, lava fields, and the encased ruins of the San Juan Parangaricutiro Church.

The Grand Canyon

Photo by Ken Cheung on Unsplash

This canyon is located in Arizona, the United States which was formed by the natural erosion of the Colorado River, over billions of years! The size, depth, distinct colors, and visible layers of sediment all add to the majesty of the Grand Canyon. It measures 446 km in length, 29 km wide, and 1.8 km deep. There are numerous hiking trails where you can appreciate the geological transitions throughout the years and if you’re interested, there is also a Geological Museum.

Victoria Falls

These waterfalls are located between the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe, Africa. They are 1,708 meters wide and 108 meters tall. After the rainy season, you can see over 500 million liters of water traveling from the Zambezi River and cascade every minute! You can visit Victoria Falls from both countries as they have both amazing perspectives.

Great Barrier Reef

Photo by Romello Williams on Unsplash

This is the world’s largest coral reef with over nine hundred islands, approximately three thousand separate reefs, and is one of the most biologically diverse areas. It takes up 2,300 km of reef over 334, 400 square km of the ocean! Queensland, Australia is where you can head to see this natural wonder. You can dive in or snorkel to admire all the colors of the corals, fish, rays, turtles, and so much more.

The Harbor of Rio de Janeiro

The erosion caused by the Atlantic ocean created this natural wonder in Brazil, in which its surrounded by mountains and pinnacles such as the Sugar Loaf Mountain, Corcovado Peak, and the Tijuca Hills. Also known as Guanabana Bay, it has appealed to thousands of tourists.
