Natural Thought Prompt #9
These Plants Are Different
Prompt: What are your thoughts on these weird plants?
Not all plants are created equal, and not all follow the rules one usually associates with plants. When you think of a plant, you may think of soil, water, sunshine, and green leaves. Well, there are exceptions to those rules!
Air plants are plants that don’t need soil to grow. They’re popular for terrariums and decorative plant displays. According to one site, they like to soak in water when they need it, meaning you pick them up and place them in a bowl of distilled water for however long that particular plant needs it. They look fake, and I still don’t think they make any sense despite having some of my own.
Carnivorous plants literally eat creatures (mostly insects and other tiny things). They evolved in places where soil quality isn’t conducive to plant growth, and they exist naturally on six continents. The most popular ones are Venus fly traps.
I particularly like water lilies because they make ponds and lakes look so cute, and they provide perfect places for frogs to croak. The giant water lily has pads that reach 8 feet in diameter! And some water lilies have very pretty flowers.
My prompting questions are these: what are your favorite plants that break the norm? If you could create a weird plant, what characteristics would you give it?
