NATO Predicts War With Russia Within 20 Years

And other news from the front line

At a recent press conference in Brussels, Admiral Rob Bauer, chairman of NATO’s military committee, told reporters that NATO’s member countries should brace themselves for war with Russia in the next 20 years.

He said civilians should prepare to be called up for military service to protect their nations, and governments should prepare themselves to mobilise troops at scale.

This could mean a return to National Service/Conscription for NATO countries who dropped National Service when the threat of war seemed less likely.

Bauer said a life-changing conflict with Russia is likely and commentators have taken this as a warning of World War Three, in our lifetime.

“We have to realise it’s not a given that we are in peace,” he told the press, following a discussion between NATO defence chiefs.

“And that’s why we have the plans. That’s why we are preparing for a conflict with Russia. But the discussion is much wider. It is also the industrial base and also the people that have to understand they play a role.”

Russia Bombed Itself due to Poor Training

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defence has said several munitions were accidentally dropped over Russian territory by Russian forces, due to inadequate training of the Russian troops.

Explosives were dropped over the Russian city of Belgorod in the west, and the village of Petropavlovka in the Voronezh region, with video clips circulating on social media of buildings on fire.

The Russian Defence Ministry issued a statement: “On January 2, at about 09.00am, during a flight of a VKS aircraft over the village of Petropavlovka in the Voronezh region, an abnormal discharge of aircraft ammunition occurred.”

Just days later, another explosive was accidentally dropped on the village of Rubizhne in the Russian-occupied area of Ukraine.

The British Ministry of Defence cited: “inadequate training and crew fatigue, leading to poor execution of tactics during missions.”

North Korea To Pay High Price for Supplying Missiles

Elsewhere, the British Foreign Office says North Korea will pay a high price for supplying President Vladimir Putin with ballistic missiles to use against Ukraine in his ongoing war.

The sourcing of weapons from North Korea is seen as a sign of Putin’s desperation as he suffers heavy losses on the battlefield and runs out of munitions.

Meanwhile, President Biden’s Office in Washington said Putin is hoping to acquire missiles from Iran, in ‘a significant and concerning escalation’.

North Korean missiles have been used against Ukraine on a handful of occasions recently, with more launches expected.

North Korea expects to receive Russian military hardware and training in return for supporting Russia in the war.
