NaNoWriMo: Final Countdown

Last five days

Graphic by Ellie Jacobson

We are down to the wire with five days left for NaNoWriMo. I’ve been struggling to keep up, but I’m determined to reach the 50,000 word count goal.

I have 13,119 words left, which feels like a mountain.

Even if you haven’t met the specific NaNo goal, please know that is not the point. Write as much as you can, to establish a writing routine where it becomes your priority.

Last year I didn’t win. But this year I’ve written more towards my book than any other time period and that is a win for me.

Because of Covid, I started writing daily in my journal to cope with anxiety. That blossomed into writing fiction and creative nonfiction pieces. That snowballed into enrolling in grad school and getting into a MFA program. And here I am now writing a book.

What steps each day can you take to get you closer to your writing goals? Focus on that and make yourself the priority.

How is NaNoWriMo going for you?
