My words for 2023 were to ‘take it slow’ with regard to romantic love. I promised myself I was not going to force it anymore and get all carried away by the possibilities.

I wish I could say that I chose to exhibit maturity in my approach to relationships and let things take their natural course. But that would be a lie.

Don’t get me wrong. I am very choosy about whom I date, but once a connection is established, it’s like going from 0 to 100 in a split second with no brakes.

Some may describe this as a fine recipe for disaster but I have a feeling that it has something to do with me being an intense and passionate woman who is drawn to a man with a similar mindset.

The downside of engaging in such relationships, especially when lacking a clear direction is that it can lead to some explosive outcomes.

Notwithstanding, I rallied with my words for 2023.

Although my current relationship can only be described as a whirlwind romance, with a romantic poet from Medium no less, we gave each other the time and space to build our relationship on something more substantial than mere perceptions and infatuation before meeting in person.

As I enter the new year, I am going to pay attention to what my heart is telling me and let my intuition be my guide. So, I’ve decided on the mantra “Embrace love without expectations” in my romantic life.

The idea of having no expectations revolves around appreciating my partner for who he is and finding strength and joy in our connection. I’m not looking for him to surpass any rigid expectations, for such efforts are not essential for my happiness.

Just being with him and embracing his authentic self is sufficient for me, as I know it is for him.

I believe this approach has the potential to foster an environment where our relationship can thrive without the weight of unnecessary tension and pressure.
