My Wife’s Relationship With Workouts

and my profound advice to her

My irritated wife turned to me with a question -

“If I’m going to feel pain after every gym session, what’s the point?”

This is a simple yet brilliant question. Isn’t it?

Ultimately, we all want to live a healthy, pain-free life.

It got me thinking about how she keeps things straightforward.

What would your answer be to her question?

Take a moment to think, and then read my brilliant response. 😎

Running, Gymming, Yoga, Meditation, Lawn Tennis, Swimming, Cricket, Table Tennis.

A person trying out these activities since 2014 is supposed to answer that question.

And when your wife asks you a question, it’s important to give an answer that makes sense and sounds believable.

You want to keep her encouraged and feeling positive so she continues working out.

Oh, I forgot to give you a brief introduction about her — She hates exercising but loves to eat.

Am I able to paint a picture of the complexity involved? 😁

The Answer

Whenever you want to progress in any aspect of life, there will be pain. But to her context, I elaborated —

Imagine you’re currently at 80 kilograms, and you want to get to 70 kilograms.

So, you decide to take action and start exercising. What happens?

Your muscles will stretch and break down, leading to some sweet pain afterward. As you increase the intensity, this discomfort is a positive sign of progress. It’s like they say, “No pain, no gain.”

But once you’re happy with how your body looks and feels, you might not feel the need to make your workouts harder.

If you stick to the same exercise routine, your body gets used to it, and there won’t be as much discomfort. You’ll still be working out, but because your body has adjusted, it becomes more comfortable for you.

Will you progress then? Yes and No.

Yes — If you consider maintenance = progress No — If you want to keep getting better

But, does it mean you waste your efforts if you’re not getting better? Absolutely NOT.

Who said maintenance is easy? It’s one of the most difficult things out there.

. . .

And she fell asleep….

I presume she got what I meant.
