We wanted to go on a cruise together

“ I have never been on a cruise with a man, I never want to go on a cruise with a bunch of women ever again.” I nodded in agreement as we looked at the website.

We were married for a few months by then, I had been on a few cruises by myself in the past, and Olivia had been on one with family. We dreamed of going on a cruise together, but the money wasn’t there, then I got a phone call.

I had no idea about the money

My dad had died ten years earlier. He had assets that I didn’t know about, the money was turned over to the State of Florida. The State hired a Law Firm to track me down.

I paid back the money I owed to a family member, then we booked our cruise. We flew to Miami and took the bus to the port. We had the best time.

I looked all over the place, and so did security

On the way back, at the Miami Airport, we went through the mag-nanometers. I put the contents of my pockets on the tray. On the other side, after we were screened, I took the tray and started to fill my pockets. My keys were not there.

I told the screeners about it. they checked the trays and security video. We looked under the machines and conveyor belts. My keys, apartment keys, car keys, and key to the mailbox at home were gone.

We appreciated her brother’s help

We got back to Columbia, Olivia called her brother, and he picked us up to take us home. Olivia had told him what happened. He had called a Locksmith.

My brother-in-law paid the Locksmith to get us in the apartment. I owed him a hundred bucks for the Locksmith. The next day, I started looking around trying to figure out how to replace my car keys.

How did my keys get there, and why didn’t I feel or notice them?

A couple of days later, I took my wallet from my pants, and guess what fell out? You guessed it. My keys had somehow got stuck in the wallet. I didn’t feel them when I sat down, and I didn’t notice them at the terminal.

These kinds of things are typical for me. I laughed about it, Olivia was irritated, but she didn’t make a big deal about it. We both agreed that on the next trip the keys will be in her purse.

I’m sure my inlaws think I’m nuts

Olivia told her brother that the keys were in the suitcase. We have stuck to that story. I don’t know if he will see this story, he probably thinks I’m a nut, and this story will reinforce that.

Olivia and I laugh about it, it cost me an extra hundred bucks, but at least we were able to get inside our apartment.

Final thought:

Marriage is hard. It’s easier when a married couple can forgive and laugh about bone-head mistakes. I’m glad that Olivia puts up with her scatter-brained husband.
