My Week In Photos: 11/01–11/07
A Week of Recovery
This has been another odd week. My dad has been recovering from Covid and then on October 31st, we found out our church was robbed. It was a big financial hit, but still, we’re trying not to let the negatives drag us down and we’re continuing to recover and get back to life as usual.

We were out around sunset trying to get a few portraits. The idea was to actively practice lighting and to get some references for drawing projects. I was introduced to the idea of ‘warm light, cool shadow’ and ‘cool light, warm shadow’… so we thought the artificial light from a flood lamp and the warm light of sunset would fit the bill. Then we saw the sky and I thought I would snap one as the reds in the clouds began to fade.

The parallel lines of the umbrella in the foreground and the power pole in the background looked kind of interesting.

My mom has a molcajete and she will roast tomatoes, garlic, jalapeno, and serrano peppers to make a wonderful salsa. This time it was my wife making the salsa and I thought the ingredients next to the molcajete and potted plant looked cool — she ended up using a blender at the end for a different consistency though.

Nostalgia strikes again. If you haven’t noticed from previous posts… I’m a sucker for brick buildings and older districts.

My Wife and I went to a bar with my sister. I got a ‘Godfather’. Lately, I’ve been keen on Amaretto. Drinks with it have been pretty pleasant.

After our church was robbed, my dad was left with no guitars. My guitars were at home during that time and so I gave my dad the acoustic I had gotten a few months ago. I changed the strings out for his preferred ones. Something about the way the thinner ones reflect light always catches my eye.

Some kinda solar-powered kitty thing that bobs back and forth. We picked it up at a sushi place for the boy. I’m realizing it may have been a bit too close for the lens to focus on it properly…

Had an interview with the news this morning about the church thing. Afterward, me and the family went to a restaurant — an Italian food place called ‘Pizza Heaven Bistro’ (love their menu). I saw the shadows looking like a reflection of the outside gate. The geometric shapes were neat, so I grabbed the camera and took a quick photo.
We’ve gone out a good bit. I think in part because we’re in a rush to get back to normal or to not think about what happened earlier this week. Whatever it is, I’m just glad I was able to get back to taking a photo a day.
