My Views And Earnings Skyrocketed In September
Just after I started doing this one new thing
In August, I had days where my articles had gained a total of 0 views. Yes, that’s correct. Not a single view on any of them. Even articles that had been gaining steady views for days just halted. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I found myself asking why this was the case and brainstorming ideas on how to solve this.
I thought that possibly my articles were just not good enough. That I was wasting time on something that couldn’t be helped. Or if the writing was okay, maybe the headlines weren’t alluring enough. But this couldn’t be the case as I’d had great view to read ratios on most of my articles — so there must have been another reason.
At a complete loss, I realized that if I was to move forward, I had to come up with a way to boost my views. And it was in that moment when I found the answer.
Publications:
I had always heard of publications and seen them in action, but I had never submitted my work to any of them. I didn’t even know where to start. I assumed that you had to have thousands of followers just to be considered for any of them.
But I was wrong!
I started researching more into publications and I found that applying to be a writer was quite easy – at least easier than I thought. Most publications simply required you so send them an email with your medium handle or comment down below on one of their articles.
That day I became a writer for 2 publications. One large publication with over 30,000 followers and one smaller publication with a dedicated readership.
I sent a piece of my work to each of the publications and found myself positively surprised when I got an email saying I had been published in both.
This was when my stories started getting the views I felt that they deserved.
The days where I spent countless hours crafting articles only for them to be ignored, were over.
I have since made it a priority to apply to a range of publications as a writer so I can broaden my reach and have my work read by different groups of readers.

September has just begun, and already my earnings are larger than the last two months combined.
The Next Step:
My next target is getting curated, which I’ve heard is great way to get more views. It means that your story will show up on the homepage and get a chance to reach new readers. I’ll be working on improving the quality of my writing and putting out longer content – I’ve heard that curation is more common for pieces over 4 minutes.
Final Thoughts:
If you are a new writer or simply a writer new to publications, I urge you to start regularly sending your work to publications. If you get rejected — no harm done, you could always self-publish as usual. Some of my more popular articles were still successful despite being self-published.
The main thing you should focus on is finding the right publication for your work. Many publications have specific guidelines or followers that prefer reading specific topics. This means that finding the right publication for your article is crucial, as this will allow you to garner more reach. Which in turn means that your work is seen by readers who are more likely to enjoy it– and leave 50 claps at the end!
It’s also important to note that you shouldn’t just apply to larger publications. The work that I submitted to the smaller publication sometimes got more views and reads than work submitted to the larger publication. This was primarily because of its dedicated readership. They spent more time reading my articles as it was tailored to them and their interests. Make sure that the publication it right for you – and don’t think too much about follower counts!
I understand that being a new writer on medium can be extremely daunting. I know that I definitely struggled, but publications were just what I needed to progress on medium and grow my audience.
I hope you make the most of them, and as always — Good luck!
