UPMA WITH RAVA (Semolina)

Here’s a quick recipe of Upma , a traditional South Indian breakfast made with Semolina.

This dish is delicious and nutritious. You can also add vegetables like carrot, green peas and french beans to the recipe to make it extra nutritious.

This is a basic recipe for Upma.

Spices and Ingredients

✔️ 2 cups Rava(semolina)

✔️2 green chillies

✔️ 1 small-sized onion

✔️½ inch piece of ginger

✔️1 tsp mustard seeds

✔️1 cup of water

✔️2 tsp cooking oil

✔️Salt, Curry leaves

PROCESS

🧑‍🍳 Dry roast the Rava on a slow flame till it starts giving a faint aroma and turns slightly brown.

Caution!

Semolina is very soft and it can turn black instead of brown. So keep stirring.

Keep the water for boiling.

Heat the oil in a kadhai. Add the mustard seeds, chopped ginger, green chilies, and onion. Sauté well. You can also add curry leaves.

Add the roasted semolina and salt. Mix well.

Add the boiling water in small quantities while stirring and mixing the ingredients. Cover with a lid and cook on a slow flame till the water is absorbed.

Stir occasionally so that the ingredients are evenly cooked and water is fully absorbed.

Take out the upma. You may sprinkle some freshly grated coconut for garnish. Upma is ready and can be served with a ripe banana.
