This Engagement Method Doubled My Earnings and Reads

I seem to be posting less and earning double!

I’m sure most of us agree that Medium is a fantastic platform for writers and readers who want to share their stories, insights, and opinions. But how do you make the most of it and earn more from your writing?

I’ve found a strategy that works for me and I want to share it with you. It doesn’t necessarily involve posting more, but engaging more with other writers and readers.

What I Do Every Morning

Every morning, before I start my chores, I sit down and do the following!

I reply to all the comments on my posts. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to read and comment on my writing and I like to engage with them to show them that I value their feedback.

I visit the pages of the genuine commenters. I don’t visit everybody, because some of the comments are short, spammy, or AI-generated. I visit the ones who leave meaningful comments that show they have read my posts.

My next step is to comment on their recent stories that are still recieving organic engagement. I look for the posts that resonate with me and that are not too old.

I read them, highlight them, clap 50 times, and leave a meaningful comment. I do this because I want to support them and show them that I care about their writing and to thank them for showing interest in mine.

After this, I explore topics that interest me. I browse the topics that I’m passionate about and that I know will showcase stories I want to read. I then interact with the most relevant commenters on those posts in exactly the same manner as my previous step. I usually end up engaging with around 30 stories.

Why I Do It

I do this every morning because I enjoy it. I love reading and writing on medium. I enjoy discovering new stories and perspectives. Connecting with other writers and readers who share my interests is a buzz.

I also do it because it works. It works for me, at least. Since I started doing this a couple of weeks ago, my earnings on medium have nearly doubled. That’s without posting more.

I still try to post daily or every other day, but that’s not the main factor. I know some of you might not care about the remuneration, but I’m not rich, and it’s nice to see some rewards. Besides, being able to pay my Uni debt with it and have some money left over for the weekends is a massive bonus for me.

The main factor is blatantly genuine engagement. Engagement is key on medium and it’s what drives the algorithm. This is what governs distribution, and of course the earnings. Engagement is what makes medium a community driven platform.

You Can Do It Too

I’m not saying this will work for everyone. This isn’t necessarily a rock-solid strategy, or a get rich quick on medium post. I’m just saying this is what I do and it’s working extremely well for me.

Maybe you could give it a try too. Perhaps you could adjust your schedule and find some time to engage more on medium, you might see the same results. If you’re already doing something similar, I’d love to know how it’s working for you.
