My Ultimate Favorite Comfort Book
The book that never fails to bring me joy and laughter

My comfort book. There are a few of them. The complication on this is that I grew up in Hungary and my comfort books are in Hungarian so this is a little bit more difficult to describe them. I have to pick one. Here it goes.
The book author is Rejtő Jenő. He has written many different books. The way he writes lifts you out of this world and brings you to this wonderful imagination that you cannot get enough of.
There are books from him that I have read so many times that the books are falling apart. If I am stuck for any reason and I just need to read something I can always go to his books and read them and lead them again.
He brings out the joy of reading.
When I start to read any of his books no matter how many times, I have read them before it is extremely difficult to put the book down. His writing makes you laugh brings your fantasy out alive. You can see the characters dancing in front of your eyes. He does also have a pseudo name it’s P. Howard. He is amazing. He describes his characters and the stories that you feel like you’re in a three-dimensional movie and you are part of everything he’s talking about. The stories he write can live at any time in any century and would be still as much fun.
My absolute favorite book from him is Piszkos Fred, A kapitány. The main character in this book is the grouchy character of the dirtiest captain in the whole wide world. He is also a thief. Nobody likes him, yet nothing works when he’s not around. When he’s around there’s food and their ship is always safe from any harm. And for some miraculous reason, they always end up in a safe harbor when there’s a storm to come. He takes money from everybody and anybody who he loves gets hated by others. Yet, ultimately he can always shuffle his cards just right that everybody ends up safe. He’s a genius and yet nobody knows he also works for the Secret Service. The story and the plot are just totally amazing.
I have this book recorded as well as two additional copies and some of them are falling apart. This year I listened to the entire book while driving to work at least two or three times and it still makes me laugh. I usually read the book at least one to two times a year. I can just never get enough of his characters and his humor. There’s absolutely nobody I have met as a writer that is like him. His fantasy and imagination are out of this world.
Of course, I have other writers as well who I love. There are books that I have read in a day or two no matter how many pages they are because they are just so amazing that I can not put them down.
P. Howard still remains my ultimate favorite author.
The books you see in my picture above I received from my father when I moved to the United States and when I went back to Hungary to visit. I go back to re-read them all the time.
Happy writings,
Gabriella
