Poetry

My Two Loves: Books and the Ocean

A poem. An Abecedarian about water and books and a strong longing for life.

An ocean full of books, letters, and words craft wild imaginations.

Dreams by the dozen enter my sleepwalker’s skull

Fragments of paper, ink, and curly edges.

Grotesk underwater beings hold my mermaid self hostage in a cave.

Jaded dreams.

Karma of glowing algae.

Lost in an ocean of endless longing.

My books are my treasures not least because they speak of freedom and far away horizons.

Paper words whisper that the Queen of the Waves rides ever higher.

Salty tears under veils of water.

Xeric conditions yearn for fluids, and zazzy dreamers live surreal lives.

How images can inspire! I do love oceans. I do love books. And I love writing about both. My imagination runs wild. Underwater, on the waves, longing for faraway horizons.

I want to end this story with a quote from a dear book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, writer of Le Petit Prince. A very wise book, by the way. If you haven’t read it yet, you should.

I’ll tag some poets (and writers whom I think are poets even when they write prose) whose work I enjoy. I really hope more people become inspired and take up this poetry form. It’s challenging, especially the last letters, but also very rewarding when the flow starts to happen…

To inspire you, I attach two Abecedarian from other poets. This is a very beautiful one from Salam Khan.

Here is an Abecedarian example of Manasi Diwakar, who by the way writes many other beautiful poems. Check her out.

And if you want to connect to me, you can find me on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, or my website. Or somewhere snorkeling and listening to the waves, building up my wisdom…
