My Treasured Moments

In response to Dancing Elephants prompt 12 of 52

My grandson and I at his birthday party

I think many of you who read a few of my stories know this little man is my heart. He is one of the moments I treasure most in my life. He has brought so much happiness back into my life that I was lacking.

I think what has made me the happiest is not just having a grandchild. That alone is a blessing in itself. My husband was never able to have children before we got married. I had myself fixed so I could not have any more children before we met. This little boy is more of a treasure to him than to me. Of course, we both share this wonderful gift but I am so happy that he at least is experiencing having a little one around. He loves his grandpa so much, and I am happy he gets a great male role model.

My grandson and my husband.

A few other treasured moments in my life would of course have to be a mother. I do not know where I would be today if I was not able to have children. Feel sorry for those who can’t. Then it makes me mad when those who do not treat their children as the miracle they are.

My son spending time with his nephew

I am very grateful for my children. They have made my life what it is today. I was going through the worst depression ever before my daughter was born. I was not using it then. I was struggling with seeing my family use and I ended up in an abusive relationship so I could leave my family. Ended up with a drug addict that beat me so it did not last. I finally end that relationship and found out I was having my daughter at 19 years old.

My son was something I was not prepared for but happy to have him. I always tried to teach my children that no matter what I will always be there for them and love them. No matter if we get into a fight that will never take my love away. They both were raised with much respect and I am so proud of them both. They are another of my treasured moments.

One more moment I treasure in my life is the day my husband and I got married. I have always been against marriage, mainly because I never thought I would get married but I had a saying. It is easier to break up than get a divorce and I never needed a piece of paper to say I loved someone. I think they are very true however, I am happy I did marry him. I found a very stand-up man and I think that is why I was able to ignore how I felt about marriage. How many men would allow your ex to spend the night at his house where he pays the bills? He did allow my ex for my son to be by his father.

husband and I at our wedding reception

I have many treasured moments that really did not happen until I got out of my parent's home, from there things were up and down being a single parent of course but one thing we have always learned in our family.

It will always work out. We could be going through very hard times and we always make it through and make things work. Being poor with two children, have to make hope out of nothing sometimes. We always made it work though, always. Maybe not monetary but one way or another things worked out. If they can work out for us, I believe anyone who is going through hard times needs to remember that. It will work itself out one way or another. Just need to have hope.
