My top 10 favourite movies of all time
Movies play a huge role in our lives. They are more than a way to pass the time, they are moments, memories that remain, whether from a specific time or from someone important with whom we experience them. Movies mark generations, mark people and change the way we see certain subjects. Films are synonymous with culture, they are the art of actors and actresses who dedicate themselves, body and soul, to give us the best of themselves.
Throughout my life I have seen hundreds of films, and choosing 10 is undoubtedly a difficult task, but I will try. These are my top 10 favorite movies of all time:
The Sound Of Music
A timeless classic!
The story of a novice who is given the task of taking care of 7 children during the summer. Upon arriving at her new home, she is faced with a cold, sad environment, children who looked like soldiers and an austere father.
Maria, with her youth and joy, brings life back to this house, music and play. An unexpected love happens, is her destiny to be a nun?
A story set in the midst of World War II. A family that teaches us that everything is done with love and hope is the last to die.
My favorite movie ever. I never get tired of seeing it no matter how many years go by.
Shawshank Redemption
A man was wrongfully accused and imprisoned. Prison life isn’t easy, especially for someone like Andy. The challenges, the bullying of the other inmates, Andy’s life takes a 180-degree turn.
Corruption is everywhere and jail is no exception. Andy learns that if he wants to survive, he’d better learn to manipulate the game in his favor.
A wonderful story, full of suspense and with exceptional representations.
The Two Popes
After the death of John Paul II comes the choice of his replacement. A memorable conclave and a decision that, despite being sacred, did not bring unanimity to the Catholic people. A man facing the tough task of leading and representing the church, at a time when it is so discredited. Can he handle it?
On the other hand, a cardinal awaiting approval for a request from the new pope, who finds himself involved in a journey that would change his life forever.
In the film “The Two Popes” the performance of Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce is phenomenal. I loved seeing the evolution of the characters and the way these two actors incorporated the roles of Joseph Ratzinger and Jorge Bergoglio.
A powerful film where humility and tolerance are key words.
The Greatest Showman
A boy with great aspirations, dreams of one day being a circus master. After several adversities, he starts his much-desired career surrounded by family and friends, but ambition takes hold of him and leads him to make certain decisions that can jeopardize his entire life. In an era where being different is considered a flaw and a reason for rejection, this man’s role may go down in history.
Undoubtedly one of the best musicals I’ve ever seen. The songs are wonderful and stay in the ear. A film about acceptance where the beauty is in being different. Powerful performances by Hugh Jackman and Keala Settle. A film that is an anthem to humanity.
The Pianist
A film set in World War II. A young pianist finds himself uprooted from his city and his family separated at the hands of the Germans. Someone he knows allows him to escape, however in a country at war and being a Jew he is never safe anywhere. The watchword is survival and it is for life that he fights every day, when nothing else remains.
A film that always brings tears to my eyes. The horror of the holocaust is mirrored in the faces of those who represent it, who only imagine what it would have been like in reality.
The Imitation Game
Alan Turing, a student at Cambridge University, is invited by MI6 to decipher Nazi codes and, in particular, “the enigma”, considered unbreakable. Alan and his team work hard to crack the codes, but the task turns out to be more complicated than it looks. With the pressure on them and time running out, hope begins to elude them.
A brilliant representation and a story that leaves the person stuck to the screen until the last moment.
Harry Potter
A child born with a destiny. The chosen one. A scar that will accompany him for life.
After the death of his parents Harry was taken to live with his aunt and uncle. A typically British family that never liked him, because what he represented frightened them. A letter changed his life, when he was informed that he would start his studies as a wizard at Hogwarts School of Magic. A past he was unaware of and a future that will bring him many surprises.
In my opinion one of the best movies ever. A magical universe where everything is possible and where friendship and courage are key words.
Harry, Ron and Hermione will forever be the golden trio. A timeless saga that has marked and will continue to mark generations.
The Pursuit of Happiness
A single father, a 5 year old son and lots of dreams. This is the story of Chris and his son Christopher, who, in the face of adversity, don’t give up looking for happiness. Chris faces major financial problems and, despite his abilities as a salesman, the only thing he can find is an unpaid internship. With a young son and no home to live in, this is the only opportunity he has to show what he’s worth.
A film of struggle and perseverance that leaves no one indifferent. A film that shows us that happiness is achieved every day, with small steps and a smile on your face.
Shutter Island
A man with a mission. Agent Teddy is tasked with investigating the disappearance of a patient from the psychiatric ward of a hospital. What at first seems like a simple task, soon turns out to be something impossible. In addition to the mission he’s been given, Teddy also has his own fears and ghosts to deal with. What’s real and what’s fiction?
In a wonderful role Leonardo DiCaprio gives us a breathtaking performance. A suspense thriller that leaves no one indifferent.
The Parent Trap
Two girls sent by their parents to a summer camp. Fate wanted them to cross paths and the truth to come out. After discovering the relationship that unites them, Annie and Haley decided to exchange lives for a common good. Will their plan work?
A brilliant performance where Lindsay Lohan gives life to two strong, fearless and courageous characters. A film that accompanied my childhood and that I never get tired of watching.
