My Third Month on Medium
Mixed feelings
In my first post about Medium last month, I mentioned that I love writing and enjoy the social aspects of Medium. This month I got to know a few more writers here and took the time to read what they wrote and to respond sometimes. That was fun, and I definitely feel more of a sense of community here. I have a few more followers and hope I provide interesting stories to them.
Unfortunately, my projected earnings for the third month still just amount to a few dollars. I still do not really know what publications would be the best fit for me. I found a good place for my poetry and travel stories and like all the publications that publish my stories, but I still wish there could be a directory of publications and their foci.
I am also still a bit confused about the stats. My last story (The Chris Hogan Controversy) has about 300 views. However, most of these are external views. I posted a friend link in a Facebook group that would care about this topic. From there, the story was further shared on Twitter, Google, and email by people both on and off Medium. None of this seems to matter much in terms of how much the story earns.
I am very pleased that so many people read this story and that I provided value for them. The focus of that Facebook group is to retire early, and my article probably gave them one more incentive to strive for that. I really do not know if there is a Medium publication with the same focus beyond the general focus on topics such as money or business.
Like everything in life, this is a journey. So far the positive aspects of writing on this platform have prevailed. It will be interesting to see how the journey will continue.
So here’s to my fellow writers and their success. I hope I will meet more of you eventually and read more of your fascinating stories.
