My Story in 3 Minutes

photo taken by Shams Shirinova

The moment I read Dr Mehmet Yildiz ’s offer for new writers to write about themselves for ILLUMINATION, I started to think “Okay, what is my story? What do I want the others to read about me and thus create a character based on what they read?”

It is not always easy to make sentences only about yourself even though you are the only one who knows you most. Ironic, is it not?

I will not avoid the fact that I cringe when I use “I am this, I am that, I have done this, etc”. So I’ll take help from the third-person pronoun.

Her Story

She is 22 years old based on the Earth’s orbit around the Sun who actually feels like she has been here in this vast Universe forever.

She has a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Though she spent years calculating and researching, she never lost her passion for poetry, growth as a human being; her passion to become the best as she can be.

This very passion illuminated her way through dark days where she just wanted to jump off the balcony and reminded her that sometimes resilience itself is what keeps her alive.

As a kid, she used to write short stories only to get deleted when her computer decided not to work anymore. Then through the following years, she fell in love with a boy who kept saying that he did want to break her heart and be gentle so it could be more painful when he actually did.

Mid-teenage years and early twenties she discovered that she loves writing her heart out, her emotions, and other thousand things she cannot and does not even want to say out loud. She collected dreams. She collected memories. She collected poems. Only to make an artwork once the storms of her heart cease.

The fact that the stories which came to fruition when she was little got lost in the brain of her computer did not take anything from her love for storytelling. She also works on a novel and has written several short stories during the last few years.

She has many interests. She draws, she plays piano, she makes videos, she loves going for shooting, above all she loves to learn. The latter fuels the love for new languages which allows her to speak her mind in 5 different ones and counting.

She loves watching dogs eat.

She also tries so hard to fill a normal day with different hobbies and productivity and rest time and it is something she fails at a lot. But resilience, remember?

She has a lot in her mind, a lot of things to accomplish, and is just trying to find her way out of this chaos. But, no matter how messy things can get, to her opinion, life is a white canvas and we color it with the way we fill our days. There is going to be a picture at the end of the day regardless of what she chose to do or do not.

All the while she is keen to support others by sharing what works for her; what makes her life easier in one way or another; what tools she make use of; the ways she rejoices life in the hope that it might change someone’s life for the better; shed light upon something; or, at least, say what they needed to hear.
