My Story Has Made 16 Cents And I Couldn’t Be Happier!

Perseverance DOES pay off on Medium

So after many attempts, I have FINALLY made my first cents on Medium.

Sixteen of them to be precise.

Now I realize this is clearly not megabucks, but honestly — the actual monetary amount means little to me.

The joy I feel has far more to do with the validation that some fellow Medium writers actually read my article from beginning to end — and hopefully enjoyed it!

There are many posts on Medium about making money with your stories.

It is obviously a highly-read topic.

I often read these stories myself, desperately hoping for a small nugget of information to help me up the ladder.

The truth is, it is difficult to make money here, but it clearly CAN be done.

Obviously, I won’t be giving up the day job any time soon on 16 cents, but it is encouraging to me.

If this post serves to give any hope to writers out there stuck on $0.00 (of which I was one for a very long time) then I would sincerely love that.

Admittedly, I haven’t made life easy for myself by so far posting rather niche stories about music.

My ’16 cent’ article: Uncovering Eno’s Lizard Point: The Beauty, The Danger And The Space In Between is esoteric, to say the least.

But music interests me, and I hope my genuine love for the subject matter shone through because of this.

I have found Medium such a supportive community.

Quite a few users have been kind enough to leave comments on my stories and I too have also left feedback.

Just the smallest of interactions over your writing can give you a real lift.

I see the comments as evidence that all this writing is not futile; if you have made a connection then it is more than worth it.

I want to write even more now!

Come on, YOU can do it too — and that’s not just my two cents worth, that’s my SIXTEEN CENTS worth!
