My Story Flopped — What Now?
A fear for many writers
When first beginning your writing journey you must understand one thing. Not everything you create will become gold. If you are writing each idea in an attempt to ‘go viral’ you will fail 9 times out of 10. If you write to improve your writing or to build up a blog portfolio then you will succeed every time.
I have had many posts perform poorly, in the beginning, and even now, in my last three days only one of those days I performed well, in relation to reads, claps, or comments.
But I learned valuable lessons from the bad days, I don’t just scream ‘The algorithm’ and run to my bed to cry. You need to become resilient as a new writer and understand that your writing often won’t be read as much as you’d like.
For example, in the past week, I’ve shared two longer pieces of content from what I’d usually write, and they both flopped. Does that mean they were bad? Of course not, they could’ve failed for a number of reasons.
So when your next post bombs don’t think you’ve done something wrong. Especially as a beginner, the chances of every one of your posts doing well is impossible. Not enough people know you to support you.
Remain confident in yourself and your writing abilities. Don’t forget that writing ‘something viral’ is a byproduct. You don’t aim to write something viral, it just happens. This is because:
- You write consistently
- You improve your writing
- You gain attention
Eventually, your lucky numbers will be read out and you’ll have the winning ticket to a viral article.
Until then, keep writing.
