My Story

Not a tale but a result based on observations and thinking

One can make a life, what is needed is “Ganas” Attribution — Here, Klimkin

In my visions of life, I dreamed of success, stature, and importance. These were disguises for false pride.

Though I have had an interesting life, having survived abusive communist teachers, the worst soccer riot in the world at 16, coming to the USA at 17 without speaking English, signing for the draft at 18 and classified 1-A, the war in Vietnam by staying in school though my grades suffered badly, doing my patriotic service in the National Guard, a first bad marriage. All that is not important compared to what I learned.

I have learned,

  • Humility when I realized my father had dedicated his life to helping his fellow man.
  • That making my second marriage work (40+ years), made my first one successful (I learned something)
  • That my health is the foundation to a life to live.
  • That a job well done is raising a good family.
  • Being “there” when needed, is more important. All else is background information when it comes to Family.
  • That, Loyalty only exists in Families; there is no such thing in business. In business the “Best” you can do is “Performance with Integrity.” If anybody asks you to be like one of “Nixon’s’ men” QUIT. (They went to jail for their “loyalty”)
  • Growth with consistency vs. Success; Self-worth vs. Stature; Humanness with humility vs. Importance; Are keys to providing happiness with continuity to our family and society.
  • That, LOVE runs deeper with time when you marry true to yourself and meet an equal partner.
  • Then, “until death do us part” is true no matter what.
  • Today, the love of my life is the mirror that I can look into, to understand what I am all about.

Antonio Machado circa 1912, speaks to this when he wrote the poem “Caminante,” — “Walker.”

Walker your threads are The path and nothing more; Walker, there is no path. The path is made when walking. When walking the path is made And when looking back you see, The path that never Will be walked again. Walker, there is no path, But trails in the sea…

(thank you uncle David, I “saw” your trails…)

That, the family I grew up with was full of wisdom and having those memories in storage help me finally realize what this is all about.
