My Special Gift
How to touch hearts with words

Even when life challenges us, it’s a gift beyond all measure. — Parker Palmer
The first words I remember writing came directly from my heart. I wrote a small note that said: Do you love me? The paper had checkboxes for “yes” and “no.” It was for my parents.
My heart needed an answer.
Of course, they checked “yes.” It was the beginning of me writing directly from my heart.
Lately, many readers tell me my writing reaches their hearts. For this, I am so grateful. It is always my intention to connect and to heal with my words.
As a highly sensitive person, it is my gift.
I feel everything deeply, and although it can be difficult at times, I can use this gift to help others through my writing. It is my purpose in life to lift others.
Here are three ways you can touch hearts with your words:
Imagine the reader
When I write, I like to visualize the reader. It is paramount that they take something from my piece that will help them feel better.
I try to imagine how they feel and what they need.
It helps me write directly to the person reading. I cannot see them, but I know they are there. It gives me great joy to speak from my heart when I write. It is a small gift that costs nothing but delivers everything.
When you write: take a moment to think about how the reader will respond. You can build an energetic connection with them.

Connect to their heart
When we share how we struggle and heal, we connect to others’ hearts. They know they are not alone.
We all need connection.
That is the root of who we are. We are humans longing to belong and needing each other to make sense of the world.
When we are open and vulnerable about our moments of pain, we can form a deeper connection with others.
We can connect to our readers’ hearts through processing our healing on the page. By sharing our stories, we heal not only ourselves but for others.

Be of service
There are many ways to be of service through your heart.
As a writer, you can choose to run a publication, read, edit and publish others’ work, or you can leave encouraging comments when you read an article.
Often it takes me a while to get through my reading list because I love to write comments and share the articles. It is a slower process, but it touches hearts.
Taking time to really be with a piece of writing and the author helps me stay in touch with the person.
I love what I do every day, in service to others.
