My silver lining
a Haibun

Some days, those days, when the workload’s blanket covers you from head to toe, you search for that little breathing space. You want something to ease your mind, a gush of cold wind to drive away the black clouds in your mind. You seem to lose it all, your brain almost non-functional, you stare at the computer screen, like a zombie, your heart wanting a break from the chaos, but you know it isn’t possible. You aimlessly open random apps on your phone, scroll endlessly, not knowing what to do, and how to organize the rest of the day.
well, some days are tough, nothing seems to go alright, crave for some goodness!
Just then, you see a pop-up on your mobile screen. A notification from the gallery application. You open it up to see it’s a photo taken some years back, on this particular day, retrieved from the virtual cloud. A bunch of happy faces, not a worry in the world, innocence jutting out from those smiles, and somehow, all of a sudden, you are transported to that day when this picture was taken. You feel like you’re back there, posing, cracking silly jokes, having a jolly good time with school friends. The time travel lasting for a few seconds, and you’re back again to the dull present. But that photo probably changes your mood for the remaining day. A slight smile on your lips, your tired mind reminiscing the good old days, your heart making plans for a reunion. You look out of the window, the sun’s setting, an orangish hue splattered across the sky, you keep looking on at nature’s beautiful painting, that smile still lingering on your face.
well, some days are tough, you get a sudden surprise, a silver lining!
