Summary

Mary Chang Story Writer reflects on the sentimental value of her worn-out hiking shoes, which she affectionately calls her "breathing buddies," despite their loss of waterproofing, and invites submissions to a photography challenge themed "Life."

Abstract

In an introspective piece titled "My Shoes Have Breathing Holes," Mary Chang Story Writer shares her connection with her well-worn hiking shoes. Although the shoes are no longer waterproof and have developed "breathing holes," she cherishes them for their comfort and the memories they hold. She draws a parallel between her shoes and John Dean's enduring use of his possessions, pondering if she'll use her shoes until they're beyond repair. The article also serves as a call to action for the April Monthly Challenge "Life," led by Sandi Parsons, encouraging readers to submit their own six-word photo stories that capture the essence of life.

Opinions

  • Mary Chang has a deep emotional attachment to her hiking shoes, viewing them as companions on her outdoor adventures.
  • Despite the shoes' worn condition, she values their continued utility and the energizing effect they have on her soul.
  • She is inspired by John Dean's philosophy of using items until they're fully depleted, as seen in his stories about his crocs and toothpaste.
  • Mary expresses gratitude towards her co-editors, Vidya Sury and Sandi Parsons, for their support in managing submissions for the challenge.
  • She is excited to share her new series, "The Fun & Funny Fitness Bitch," which will document her fitness journey and offer insights and advice to readers.

My Shoes Have Breathing Holes

April Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Life”

Worn out, but still breathing life.

My trail shoes are no longer waterproof. The rain seeps in through the rips and tears — but I call them “breathing holes.” The pair hug my feet and I consider them my hiking buddies. The soles are still firm and energize my own soul.

I’m not ready to let them go.

When I took this shot, I was reminded of John Dean’s worn out crocs and tube of toothpaste. I wonder if I’ll use them to death like JD does.

We’re open for submissions and invite you to submit to the April Monthly Challenge “Life” led by Sandi Parsons this month.

Bless the hearts of these two dear people and great writers, Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles, and Sandi Parsons, my brilliant co-editors — for helping with submissions.
