Summary

The article reflects on the choice between prosocial behavior and self-centeredness in the context of the 2020 U.S. presidential election, urging voters to choose between Donald Trump and Joe Biden based on the type of society they wish to live in.

Abstract

The author responds to a story by Deval Patrick, which underscores the dichotomy between good and evil as a central theme in American society. This dichotomy is exemplified in the upcoming presidential election, where voters are tasked with choosing between two starkly different visions for the nation. The choice is simplified to one between a prosocial society, as represented by Joe Biden, and a self-centered one, embodied by the incumbent, Donald Trump. The article emphasizes the importance of this decision, admonishing those who might abstain from voting due to imperfections in Biden's candidacy. It calls attention to the potential consequences of another term for Trump and the importance of participating in the democratic process to shape the future of America.

Opinions

  • Deval Patrick is credited with identifying a fundamental divide in American society, characterized by a choice between prosocial attitudes and self-centered interests.
  • The author asserts that the 2020 election presents a clear choice for Americans between two contrasting societal visions.
  • There is a concern that some Americans might not vote because Joe Biden does not align perfectly with their ideals, such as not being a feminist or a socialist.
  • The article suggests that the potential impact of another four years of a Donald Trump presidency should be a compelling reason for undecided voters to participate in the election.
  • The author implies that the decision to vote should not be based on the perfection of the candidate but rather on the type of society voters wish to foster.

The choice between good and evil

In this story.

Deval Patrick has identified the fundamental divide in America. Very simply stated it is the divide between a prosocial attitude and one that focus on self centered interests at the expense of others.

In November the American people get to make a choice between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. You are being asked to decide what kind of society you want to live in. Prosocial or self-centered, it is that simple.

Too many Americans don’t seem to understand the simple choice they are being asked. They are not going to vote because Joe Biden is not the perfect candidate “ he is not a feminist”or “he is not a socialist”.

If you are considering not voting please ask yourself “What will another four years of Donald Trump bring?”.
