My Response To A Great Story by Sami B

And to a self centered comment by a self declared fake historian

This is a story by a positive prosocial writer is contrasted with the comments of a self centered egotist who reveals an incredible lack of values.

This wonderful story by Sami B reflects a positive prosocial attitude that is absent from much of the social and political discussion coming from the USA. In it the author suggests that the attitudes of her peers is a product of their not having suffered physically. While I agree that this is true it does not provide the full story. I admire her ability to remain positive and optimistic and retain her values in spite of adversity.

Her response to adversity is unfortunately not universal. Too many people become bitter or resentful. Too many people take it out on others or blame them for their own misfortune.

The root of the problem is values or rather a lack of values. There was a time when Democrats and Republicans had different beliefs but they had integrity. They worked together for the good of all.

The actions of Americans with regard to face masks is disturbing to those of us living in other parts of the world. Here in Canada I do not see anybody who does not comply with regulations which are more stringent than those of our neighbor even though they are suffering higher incidence and spread than us.

Since the 50’s there has been a steady erosion of values in America. Prosocial attitudes have been replaced by attitudes that are self centered. The result is a society that has no sense of direction or purpose. The once great nation has become a rudderless ship.

The Republican party has a leader who is a liar and a cheat. His sole interest is self promotion and when he leaves office he will face legal jeopardy for his bad behaviour. His followers don’t care. Like him they are self centered and as long as he promotes their interests rather than the interests of the country as a whole they will support him.

The Democratic party is not much better. They are openly critical of and attack their leader for not promoting their own personal agendas. As a result many of them will not vote at all. Their dog in a manger attitude may lead to the re-election of Trump.

Without more positive prosocial people like Sami B America will face an increasingly violent and chaotic future.

A bizarre comments to this story from a self declared fake historian was so outrageous that I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Since the primary purpose of wearing a mask is to protect others in case you have an asymptomatic case of the disease he can’t understand why anybody would want to wear one. But then, according to one of his posts he believes that the pandemic is over and is encouraging everybody, as he says in an unbelievably ironic post, to go watch baseball and catch the Marlins fever.
