My Pug — 10 Months Later Is Now Family

He runs the house — all 20 pounds of him.

Despite all the white hair around my house, my little pug is the king who gets waited on for every little thing. For years, my kids wanted a dog and my wife and I held on for years until they could prove themself. We’re still waiting for that, but they were a little older, and I finally said why not.

Now after destroying five beds, I realized I should have done more research on pugs. Pugs are one of a kind and should not be lumped in as any dog.

I’m sure all dogs are different.

As a kid, I had a chihuahua, and she was easy to care for.

But my pug is high maintenance. He wants your attention constantly if he’s not taking his nap.

There is nothing wrong with that, but you probably have things you want to do.

If he’s not outside in my backyard, he’ll run all over the house.

Then if my kid’s left something on the floor, it’ll be in his mouth. Then you have to chase him until you can grab him which is very hard to do. For that, I can thank him for helping me stay in shape.

He’s small but very fast. I read pugs can run up to 10 miles per house. Then he’s so small and that makes him harder to catch. And my pug is quick as well.

So he has three things working against me.

A few times, he learned to salsa or low crawl under the legs of chairs to avoid capture.

You see, my pug has a sense of humor.

If he could talk, he’d probably say, nah-nah-nah-nah-nah as he runs off.

My kids have started to play with the dog more, but I still play and take care of him the most. I work from home, so he gets most of my attention.

On most days, he gets a 15-minute walk. He’s got energy to burn, so I figure I might as well use that to my advantage. Just like a kid, they have all this energy and you want to keep them busy.

In a few days, my pug has his one-year-old birthday. So I need to find a treat for this special occasion.

On a good note, we sweep and dust a lot more since his hair finds its way all over the house including your clothes. In a Facebook group, I found out pugs shed a lot, but white pugs shed the most.

So, this will keep the Swiffer company in business for years.

But if you decide to get a dog, always do your research. And you don’t even need to buy a book. The internet has just as good of information available. Either websites on the specific dog or Facebook groups on the breed you’re considering getting.

But 10 months later, I love my pug. He has a sense of humor if you could call it that for dogs, but shows it in a different way.
