Abstract

The author acknowledges the risks associated with such vulnerability in politics but believes that the withholding of knowledge poses its own risks. The full list of these diary entries is available for those interested in a more in-depth understanding of local governance and the author's experiences.

My Public Diary: An Exercise of Transparency and Vulnerability

Demystifying public leadership takes courage

In 2022, I began writing public diary entries to demystify the space I occupy in local government.

My public diary posts are inspired by the NPR Public Editor (formerly known as the NPR Ombudsman), a digital publication by an independent journalism organization.

My goal is to take readers beyond the brevity of a social media post or news flash to help them understand how things work at city hall.

Being vulnerable can be risky. It is true in our most intimate relationships. It is surely true in politics. But, withholding knowledge also bears its own risk.

Ed.
