My Poetry Biography — Tree Langdon

Illumination Poetry Club

Inspiration — by klickblick from Pixabay

Writing a formal biography can be a stretch for the creative mind. When I’m writing poetry, I’m not listing accomplishments or thinking about marketing.

I’m creating.

When it comes to editing my poetry, the process I use is creative as well. I read the words out loud and really feel into them. There has to be a certain rhythm. It takes time and I keep going until it feels right.

I use a technique I like to call merciless editing.

In high school, my attempts at writing poetry were hampered by my shyness. The last place I wanted to open up for scrutiny was the fantasy world that existed in my head.

I remember writing a limerick in grade school and the teacher didn’t believe it was my own. For the record, here it is.

There once was a parrot named Polly He thought he was so very jolly He told you a joke And then the old bloke He drowned out your laughter, by golly.

I still remember the look in her eyes. She didn’t accuse me of anything, but she sure didn’t encourage me.

I don’t write very many poems that rhyme anymore. But they do have to have rhythm in order to pass muster.

I like to play with words in my poems and have written a series of poems on words that don’t directly translate into English.

Words that Don’t Translate

I have had a couple of poems included in an anthology.

Breathing Words — A Year of Writing Together

Waiting for Magic, Fly With Me, Lost, Release, Forgive

When I wrote my last Bio, I couldn’t resist playing with words:

I write here on Medium, and it’s been friendly to my poetry in the past.

Now, not so much. The new profile pages allow someone to read your poem without opening the story and I believe that is why my read count has dropped drastically.

I loved the idea of a Poetry Writers Club to help us get the word out.
