Summarize

My plant is getting a treatment and then a bath!

Katie's sick plant photo by Katie Michaelson.

She has mealy bugs! My first experience with them was when I purchased a lemon tree years ago. A few days after getting it home — yuck! The greenhouse took it back.

Seldom do I have plant pests, so this is a great time to share my treatment.

  • Remove the white puffs on leaves and stems with alcohol on a Q-tip
  • Drench the soil with hydrogen peroxide
  • Wait 30 mins
  • Rinse the plant with water and Murphy’s Oil soap or Castile in a spray bottle
  • Put the pot in a large bowl
  • Put worm castings on the soil and water well
  • Let the plant sit in the bowl of water for 2 hours so the water gets to all the leaves

Now I must check all my plants.

I will repeat the treatment in a week.
