Summary

The author of the website content expresses their profound admiration for the film 'Midsommar,' considering it their favorite movie of 2019 and advocating for its recognition across various Academy Award categories, despite it not receiving nominations from the Academy.

Abstract

The website content reflects a personal essay where the author laments the lack of recognition for the film 'Midsommar' at the 92nd Annual Academy Awards. Despite the Academy's oversight, the author passionately argues that 'Midsommar' deserves accolades, particularly for Florence Pugh's performance, which they believe should have earned her a Best Actress nomination and win. The author humorously presents their own Oscar picks, with 'Midsommar' dominating categories such as Best Picture, Best Director for Ari Aster, and several other unique, satirical categories that highlight the film's darkly comic and horrific elements. The essay also touches on other films from 2019, acknowledging their quality, but maintains that 'Midsommar' is unjustly underrepresented in the award season conversation.

Opinions

  • 'Midsommar' is deemed the best film of 2019 by the author, surpassing other nominated movies like '1917' and 'Parasite.'
  • Florence Pugh's performance in 'Midsommar' is considered Oscar-worthy, with the author suggesting she should have been nominated and won for this role instead of 'Little Women.'
  • The Academy's choices are seen as flawed for not including 'Midsommar' and other deserving films like 'Us' and 'Uncut Gems.'
  • The author uses satire to emphasize 'Midsommar's' strengths, creating humorous award categories that play on the film's disturbing and unique scenes.
  • 'Midsommar' is praised for its direction by Ari Aster, original music score by Bobby Krlic, and its portrayal of themes such as communal screaming by a death cult and the use of psychedelic mushrooms.
  • The author implies that the Academy Awards would benefit from their fictional reality-warping influence, suggesting a more fitting set of nominations and winners that align with their own preferences.

‘Midsommar’ Is My Favorite 2019 Movie

If only I ran the Academy Awards…

I’m going to watch the 92nd Annual Academy Awards tonight even though the Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences snubbed my favorite movie of the year. That movie is Midsommar, a romantic-comedy about human sacrifice.

Seriously, in what kind of world is natural born art genius Florence Pugh nominated for Little Women and not Midsommar? She should be nominated for both and she should win both. But I have no control over this.

Pop culture experts are predicting it will be a big night for movies like 1917 and Parasite, with the latter being more deserving than the former. Honestly, all the movies nominated this year are either excellent or perfectly fine. Us and Uncut Gems should have gotten nods, I suppose, but whatever. There were so many great movies last year.

So these are my 2020 Oscar picks if I had the reality-warping Infinity Gauntlet. *Snap* Here are the nominations and the winners I want to see in the world. They are 100% wrong but you know what? They're also 100% right, in their own way.
