My Parents Got Volatile Stares when They Harnessed and Leashed Me and My Siblings

It wasn’t a good look at the time, but my parents didn’t care

As you grew up, did you ever listen to stories told by your parents about when you were a child? My parents loved to tell stories, especially my dad.

I was thinking about one of those stories when I watched the evening news tonight. The local news aired a story about a small child who woke up from a nap got out of the house and wandered off.

The mom put her daughter down for a nap, then she took one herself

The parents called the police. Three hours later, hunters found the little girl a mile away from her home. By that time, her parents had called 911.

Thank God, the police were able to return the little girl to her parents. My parents had the right idea. They knew how easy it was for little kids to get separated from their parents.

My dad was a big man and had a mean face, so no one confronted them

I don’t know what they did about naps, but when we were out in public. Mom and Dad put a harness and leash on us. They sell harnesses and leashes for children on Amazon.

So, Harnesses and leashes for children have been around for a long time. My parents said they got glares when they leashed us, but they didn’t care.

We enjoyed wearing them because we thought we were free to roam like big kids

My mom said we enjoyed the leashes. We had a sense of independence. We were able to walk around and explore. We didn’t understand how it looked bad.

Little kids are so quick. They can disappear the second you turn around. I know my mom took naps while my dad was at work. It had me wondering if we ever went exploring outside.

Never take things for granted, check the doors

The little girl’s mom thought she locked the back door, but she didn’t. I bet she never makes that mistake again. I’m glad everything worked out okay.

I get tired of hearing about tragedies involving children. Those hunters were in the right place at the right time. I know God was protecting that little girl.

Final Thought:

Parents need rest. Please double-check the doors in your home before you lie down for a nap. Figure out a way to keep your kids contained. Remember, two-year-old children are a handful.

I’m an uncle, all little kids are a handful, but they are precious and awesome. We need to protect them.
