My Old Man

When we have to say goodbye

My ‘Old Man’ — Paul Myers

Having read a lovely poem by Bob, called “The joy of the day”, memories of my ‘Old Man’ came rushing in.

The advice and guidance that my ‘Old Man’ shared with me were priceless. I always welcome and really enjoy opportunities to learn from people of an older generation, their wisdom is inspiring.

Below are the words that I chose to say goodbye to my ‘Old Man’.

Our Dad

There are so many things that I’d like to say about my Dad

Things like how much he loved his grandchildren

He idolized them — Cian, Taylor, and Evan

Like how much he loved his dogs, Mandy, Kim and Pebbles

Time permitting, there are so many things I could say

To be honest I struggled to find the words

A Eulogy for a man who meant so much to us all

Words to do him justice

But the words eluded me

Then I noticed something that my brother had written

On a Father's day card

My Dad always said: “simplicity is the name of the ball game”

So I decided to keep it simple and borrow my brother's words

He captured it so well

It goes like this:

“Although m eyes can't see you … in my heart you’ll always be”
