A little bit of everything

I love listening to music. I know most people do as well but I also have found that a lot of people are very particular about what they listen to and there is nothing wrong with that but sometimes you need to go outside of your box and give some other genres a listen. You never know what you might find and you might end up liking a song or artist that you have never heard of before.

Some of my favorite artists are Queen, Journey, BTS, The Rose, Miles Davis, Backstreet Boys, Carrie Underwood, Showtunes (Because those musicals), Eminem, and Elevation Worship to name a few.

I listen to music every day in some way or another. It brings something into my life that I can’t get anywhere else and I think a lot of you would agree with me on that.

I was curious about my own playlists and thought this might make an interesting article so am going to hop onto my YouTube Music App and put it on “My Supermix” on shuffle. These are the first 25 songs that played one after the other:

1. Fire on Fire by Sam Smith 2. Missing You by BTOB 3. Be With You by ATEEZ 4. Must’ve Never Met You by Luke combs 5. Phase Me by Woosung 6. Airplanes by B.o.B feat. Hayley Williams 7. So What by BTS 8. Waving Through A Window by Ben Plat and the Original Broadway Cast of Dear Evan Hansen 9. Speechless by Dan & Shay 10. Arcade (Acoustic version) by Duncan Laurence 11. You Problem by Monsta X 12. It’ll Be Okay by Shawn Mendes 13. Daisy by PENTAGON 14. Ain’t My Fault by Zara Larsson 15. Rumor by Lee Brice 16. Illusion by ATEEZ 17. Stand By Me by Ben E. King 18. This list consists of some pop in English, Korean and Thai. We have some showtunes, worship, country, oldies, and rock. Obviously, there are other factors into the curated lists that are created based on some common artists that you listen to on a daily basis. So, this is a list that will be changing depending on the day and time you listen to it. But that’s what is really cool about music is there are so many options out in the world. There are so many talented artists that can be discovered.

Music is so universal and can connect us. It can speak for us when we can’t find the words to say and it can help us process an emotional time we are going through. It can motivate us and pass time. It can be inspiring and bring joy into our lives. Music is something that can’t be replaced in my opinion.

Funny enough, this list even consists of songs that I don’t usually listen to and are not as familiar with at all, which is exciting for me because now after this article, I get to go back and give these songs a listen. And here’s the thing: branching out and listening to different music doesn’t mean that you have to like every new song that you listen to. It doesn’t mean you have to like every artist in the genre. Maybe it’s not for you and that’s okay too.

Half of the music I listen to is also just instrumental, both modern and classical, but it did not show up on this list because I usually listen to this playlist while driving around and instrumental when I am working at home on the computer. It doesn’t include those power anthems and rap music that has a beat that motivates me when I need a little bit of energy!

Let me say this: I know that everyone has specific music styles that they lean towards and artists that they will follow but I just ask that you don’t get stuck in the thought process that other music is “bad” just because you don’t necessarily listen to it.

I guess the point of this article is to encourage you to expand your music library and take steps to listen to other artists outside of your normal rotation. No pressure though! This is supposed to be for fun and lighthearted. If you are content and happy with what you are listening to, then you do you! No judgment here, just wanted to share.

I will add a few links to some of these songs and to keep on brand of it being a totally random pick I will do this picking numbers from a random generator 1–26. (Also, I do not own any of these songs or videos. I simply searched them on YouTube)

First number: 4 Must’ve Never Met You by Luke combs

Second number: 5 Phase Me by Woosung

Third number: 10 Arcade (Acoustic version) by Duncan Laurence

Fourth number: 16 Illusion by ATEEZ

Fifth number: 22 Be Alright by Dean Lewis

Sixth number: 24 You May Be Right by Billy Joel

And lastly the seventh number: 2 Missing You by BTOB

I sense a theme today on subject matter hahahahaha well that’s what the random generator picked so that’s what we are going with! I promise I do listen to music that isn’t just about relationships and isn’t just on the emotional side! It’s funny actually how I am writing an article about musical variety and find myself sitting in a pattern. I think it might be time for myself to do a new round of exploring? What do you think? It is interesting how sometimes we find ourselves listening to a particular style of song multiple times in a row. I know I do this often! Sometimes you just find those few songs that just hit the spot, ya know? They don’t even have to relate to anything going on in your life at that moment or even have a reason for it other than you like the way it sounds.

Well, happy listening! If you go and listen to any of these songs or artists on this list, please let me know your thoughts! If you have any favorite songs or artists that I should check out please leave me a comment and I will check them out. I always love finding new music!
