My Mother’s Spirit Lives on in the Beautiful Energy of Her Last Christmas Gift
It’s proof that love never dies.
She’s doesn’t have wings or a typical angel-like face.
But shat she has is what matters: angel energy. That sparkling love and vitality that touches your heart when you look at her.
I say “her” because my mother did and because she was my mother’s final Christmas gift. My mother recognized this energy and was attached to her the minute she saw her.
It’s been over 20 years and her white, lace dress emits a shabby-sheek appearance, aged but still elegant. Her face possesses the innocent wisdom of the hope and promise of the Christmas Season.
She dons a tiny pearl crown, earrings, and a simple pearl necklace.
And at night she shines.
Next to my Christmas tree, she is my favorite decoration. Yet she is so much more.
Angel’s First Christmas
I remember unwrapping her that first Christmas in my childhood home.
My mother bought her in the famous Filene’s Basement, may it rest in peace, where bargains and two-floors of merchandise overflowed. Like much of Boston, it has been transformed into high rise condos.
But I digress.
My mother watched in anticipation as I opened the box and removed our newest mantle decoration.
“I thought she was lovely and that you’d appreciate her,” my mother said. She smiled when I touched the soft face tenderly.
I placed my new treasure on the opposite end of the mantle from the brightly lit tinsel tree and plugged her in. Her candles shone from both of her tiny paws.
She adorned the mantle for 10 years following my mother’s death and now has a special place atop my tiny fireplace.
The Big Reveal
Angels come in many forms and in all shapes and sizes.
In this case, this angel was and is a Christmas Bear.
Since adorning my home with Christmas decorations, I have found feathers everywhere and in some of the oddest places. My bathroom vanity, kitchen counter, and even in a bedroom drawer.
Angels make their presence known in this way, and they are especially close to us at this time of year. And this year they bring their healing energy in answer to our prayers.
I hear my mother’s voice whenever I look upon this precious Angel-Bear and am reminded that our loved ones are only a thought away.
Love is the purest energy of all.
Energy is forever.
And love never dies.
