My Medium Income Grew 630% Last Month
From September to October my Medium income grew by over 630%.
In this article, I’m spilling the beans on all of it. You’ll learn:
- What I did to grow my income
- How many articles I published
- What articles (if any) went viral and how they went viral
- How much I earned from Medium in October
Let’s go!
My Medium Income Report — October 2021
First, if you want to start from the very beginning, check out this post where I talk about my first standout month on Medium where I earned the most in one month (until now):
So, it all started in September.
I decided to really give a good effort with Medium and coming from writing on News Break, it was refreshing to actually write about the things I liked.
The first month I made $433 from Medium and that was September.
I did the same thing in October and made even more!
Over 630% more to be precise. More on the numbers below.
What I did to grow my income?
I treated my writing on Medium like it was my job.
My goal was to pump out at least 2–3 stories per day. I write shorter content, not longer than 1,000 words so this was a breeze for me.
I’ve had clients in the past where I churned out as much as 60,000 to 80,000 words per month so this was super duper easy in comparison.
October was a very inspiring month for me.
I looked back on what I had accomplished so far for the year including past and current projects I’m working on, things I’ve done in prior years including businesses I’ve created and sold and more.
And, I wrote about it.
So my strategy was…
- Write a minimum of 2–3 stories (published) per day
- Get my content picked up by publications
- Respond to all the comments
These three things were all I focused on.
First, writing 2–3 articles per day published was a challenge in the beginning.
The writing part was easy but to get a couple-hour (or faster) turnaround for publishing especially with some of the larger publications can be tough.
This is where I built up a batch of my content so I could have a few things published on publications daily.
Next, part of my strategy was to publish my stories in publications.
I’ve been hearing that Medium is focusing less on pubs and more on pushing individual stories not in publications but I still wanted to have at least some of my work in publications.
My regulars are:
- The Startup
- Better Marketing
- Writers Blokke
- The Side Hustle Club
Lastly, I wanted to interact with readers so I tried my best to respond to all the comments from my stories.
That’s my recipe.
How many articles did I publish?
52.
Yep, 52 stories were written.
Some days I could only get one published and early in the month there were days when nothing went live but for the most part, I published a few stories everyday.
What articles went viral?
I had 2 articles get the most views for the month. They are:
I had a few others get over 5,000 views too but these were the top performers.
The faceless YT video story received 114,000 views as of today and the Fiverr story got 16,500 views.
There was really nothing special about these. I just wrote about my experience.
How much did I make in October?
A big jump in income compared to the previous month.
I made $2,775 in October.

I would love to have a great month like that this month in November but I expect my income to drop.
I had a viral article and those tend to lose steam over time. I’m doubtful I can crank out another viral this month but who knows.
So, that was my month on Medium in October.
