My MAGA Cousin Just Deleted Me on Facebook Because of This Post

The election is months away but MAGA is already fighting mad. This has made the rounds on Facebook and Twitter. And I love it.

I normally avoid politics on Medium because it is such a divisive issue. But I can no longer be silent.

This cousin-in-law/relative I see every few years, randomly deleted me as a friend on Facebook. I am not close to this person but I also did not do anything to this person either.

All I did was post the above meme. I do not like MAGA/Donald Trump.

I grew up in NY. For over 20 years, Donald Trump was a big joke to many who live there. No one ever foresaw that he would be president. And when he was actually elected, it was a big slap in the face.

We are now in the Biden era. And I’m okay with it. Biden is why my family had $30,000 in school loans forgiven. This helped us tremendously financially. Trump would have never pushed school loan forgiveness.

And yes, Biden is a little long in the tooth. However, if you saw his recent fiery State of the Union, he has put a lot of fears to rest.

Even MAGA has to admit, Biden has a wicked sense of humor.

While November is a ways off and it is almost spring here in the Midwest, politics are already firing up.

And the first shot was made by my cousin, because of a meme.

If any of you remember back in 2020, my very Republican uncle “told me off” on Facebook, just a month before he died. I never got a chance to talk to him.

I moved away and lost touch with him, but I kept tabs. As the years went on, his life was like a fairy tale for Boomers. Money, success, leisure, trips to Europe and hobnobbing with politicians. Staunchly Republican, he despised anyone who was Democrat. We connected on Facebook and he soon found out I was liberal AND Democrat. And he did not like it.

A few years ago, I posted something he didn’t like on Facebook and he told me off. I was raised to respect my elders and I won’t repeat what he wrote, but I had to delete him from my Facebook page.

At the time, it seemed like the right thing to do. But I did not like the family fall-out.

This is what the Trump/Biden standoff is going to create. More division between family and friends. And I am tired of it.

It is only March and already beginning. And the irony is I am registered as Independent. I am actually not Democrat or Republican.

But forget free speech on social media and in person! MAGA is going to strike. I think my cousin did me a favor.

I am not into debating politics this year. At all. I would rather watch the ever charismatic Ryan Gosling do this Ken number:

If you haven’t watched it yet, the man has talent.

But back to annoying relatives. It’s going to be great fun to deal with him in person at his father-in-law’s 80th birthday party next week. That is going to be interesting….
