My Madness that is Midnyte

From writing romance to writing supernatural and horror novellas — how crazy is that?

An introduction to my book chapters on ILLUMINATION

Writing romance novels was my bread-and-butter for many, many years.

And while some literary writers in their ivory towers looked down on romance novelists, they would not be able to shame me.

I am proud of my romance novels, all published the conventional way.

I would not feel less of a writer just because an academic who was also a literary writer stated during a workshop for wannabe writers, years ago, that writing romance was akin to prostituting one’s writing skills.

My readers did not simply pass the time reading. They were also sent to flights of fantasies. And what writer would not delight in knowing that their readers thoroughly enjoyed the romantic fairy tales?

Later, however, when an opportunity presented itself for me to wander into writing educational books and school materials, I took it.

But I am basically a writer of fiction and this, I guess, is why madness wrapped me in its luminous lightlessness. I then ventured towards writing my first supernatural/horror novel.

Madness it might be, but there it is — my first fiction outside the romance genre, Midnyte Madness.

This is a book comprised of two novellas: Merry’s Bitter Half and The One That Got Away.

This is not your run-of-the-mill horror / supernatural novel.

It does not just create terror.

It does not simply make the fainthearted reader dread the sight of a green-eyed black cat.

Its focus is rooted on two delicate social issues: pedophilia and backstreet abortion.

Set mostly in the Philippines where incidents of parents pimping their children to western pedophiles are not unknown and where abortion is illegal, these issues underpinned the theme of my madness which is Midnyte.

This, definitely, is well outside the romantic genre but look out for the love angles in the novellas. You’ll never know. You might catch a glimpse here and there of love, but the surreal and shocking kind.
