My Life Got Easier When I Identified This Tendency
I have this strange tendency.
I look at tasks I don’t want to do. Then, I blow them up in my head and make them seem way harder than they actually are.
It doesn’t make sense.
Let’s say I’ve left a dirty pan in the sink for a few days. In my mind, I act like cleaning that pan would take enormous amounts of energy.
So I just don’t do it.
In reality, if I’d just do the thing, it’d be over within a few minutes.
I find myself doing this with many things. Cleaning out my closet, going grocery shopping, organizing my garage.
It’s ironic because I do things that take more willpower. Writing, doing jiu jitsu, lifting weights.
I just enjoy those things more.
My life got easier when I identified this tendency to vastly overestimate how hard it is to do things I don’t enjoy doing.
