My Last Ten Minutes on Medium!

Everything You Need to Know

There’s nothing Medium writers enjoy more than reading stories about writing on Medium.

The platform is teaming with “My Year on Medium” and “My Month on Medium” and “My Twelve and a Half Weeks on Medium” posts in which writers enthuse about their fabulous stats and brag about their earnings.

Or kvetch about their dismal stats and lament about their crappy earnings.

Either way, these posts are ridiculously popular. So I figured I’d jump on the bandwagon and post about “My Last 10 Minutes on Medium.” Why? So that you can all learn from my experience. (That’s why everyone says they write this stuff. Not to boast or to complain, or because they can’t think of anything else to write.)

Here’s what happened during my past 10 minutes on Medium:

Brad Manyclaps (not his real name) clapped 50 times for one of my posts. So I read one of his posts, posted a comment, clapped 50 times, and followed him.

Phil the Mediocre Poet (also not his real name) responded to a comment I’d posted on one of his posts. I read and applauded the comment.

Betsy Newfollower (That’s actually her real name!) (Just kidding. It’s not.) clapped 12 times for a post that I wrote over a year ago and followed me.

A Medium writer who shall remain anonymous to protect his privacy (Okay, it was Tom Handy) clapped for my latest post.

Wow! What a thrill! What a great platform, huh? Nonstop fun! And I learned so much. I am humbled.

So what’s the takeaway? (When it comes to this kind of post, there always has to be a takeaway.)

My Last Ten Minutes on Medium has taught me that:

(1) There are worse ways to spend ten minutes than writing or reading on Medium. (Like doing my taxes, which is what I was up to before I decided to procrastinate by writing this post)

(2) I enjoy making up silly names for Medium writers.

(3) You can write a Medium post about damn near anything.

Thank you for reading this! I will totally include your response to this post in my next post, “How Everyone Responded to My Last Post on Medium.”
