My Japanese Pancake — Okonomiyaki

Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Freestyle

A pizza photo? No, it’s Okonomiyaki.

I used the kind of Japanese flour which is for making Okonomiyaki.

There are many types. This time, I used one with Yamaimo called “mountain yam.” Guess what, it turned out YUM!!

I also used Japanese dried shrimp. It’s called Sakura Ebi, which looks like → This. I put Katsuobushi (Dried Bonito Flakes) after my pancake was out of the pan and after spreading some dried seaweeds. I like seeing the dancing Katsuobushi.

For one to two eggs, depending on how much you want to make, you adjust the amount of flour and water. I also added the dried shrimps to the bowl.

I aimed to make it watery.

Pouring olive oil into the warmed pan, I dripped just a little to see if it was ready. I heard the sizzling sound, and I poured all of it into the pan.

         Heat: medium-low.

I let it sit in the pan for about 5 to 7 minutes. While I poured the mix, some olive oil went to the edge and onto the pancake mix, so I spread it before I flipped it.

I then just waited for another 5 minutes or so. Then it was ready to serve.

I spread some Katsuobushi, shredded dried seaweed, and Tonkatsu sauce (one used for deep-fried foods).

You can add an extra egg on the top, fried noodles, or bacon. Or, all of them. You often see a good amount of thinly sliced cabbage in the mix, and you can taste it. This time, I didn’t use it.

You can have fun making a half-and-half pancake with different ingredients or making two pancakes.

I also tried adding small sliced ham and mushroom with some freshly grounded black pepper.

After having my kind of pancake, I felt it was time for green tea instead of coffee. So I made green tea with a tiny cup.

It was a nice cup of tea after a meal.
