Orange Mound Is My Home

I love Orange Mound and it's my comfort zone

I have been home the last couple of weeks back and forth to the point that a 3-hour drive from Nashville to Memphis feels like 20 minutes now.

Despite what goes on in the city, I love Memphis for what it is Specifically Orange Mound or Aka Hustletown.

I don’t see the “hood", I see home. I feel at home. Orange Mound has the food I love, it has the hood corner stores where the clerks still remember my face, and also chips and juices, and drinks and snacks are way cheaper. When I’m riding around the neighborhood that grew up in, I feel like I belong. Maybe it’s the familiarity that Nashville doesn’t give me. The more and more I come back, I always end up staying longer than expected.

The thrill of being away from home for the last ten years has finally gone away and I can feel it. I have been wrestling with this feeling for the past 2 years but trying to suppress it because I know being away from Memphis is best for my mental state but I miss home!

Also, the older I get the more I want to be around my family! I love getting to see my brothers, my nieces and nephews, my mom and dad, and my grandparents whenever I want to. When I get in town I spend most of my time driving around the city trying to see everyone.

When I get back to Nashville from Memphis I always feel like I left something and I finally figured it out and that’s my heart!
