Summary

The article "My Goodness My Guinness’s" by James G. Brennan is a poetic tribute to Guinness beer, emphasizing its health benefits and cultural significance, in response to a superfood challenge by Lucy The Eggcademic.

Abstract

James G. Brennan's piece, titled "My Goodness My Guinness’s," is a celebration of Guinness stout as a healthful beverage. The author describes Guinness's rich, creamy appearance and its nutritional content, including iron, flavonoids, calcium, and vitamin Bs. The beer's deep color is attributed to roasted barley, and its flavor is praised for its complexity and palate-pleasing qualities. Brennan connects Guinness to his personal heritage, noting that the water used in brewing comes from the Wicklow mountains in Ireland, where his mother was born. He recalls the historical prescription of stout for its health benefits and positions Guinness as a timeless super drink, not a passing fad. The article also addresses the idea of Guinness being a meal in itself and criticizes the waste of such a beverage when people fail to finish it. Brennan concludes with a toast to health and highlights other writers' works as part of the superfood challenge, expressing gratitude for the platform provided by Lucy The Eggcademic.

Ruby black with a rich, creamy head, ahh the wonder of Guinness. Packed full of iron, with flavonoids, calcium and vitamin Bs; roasted barley gives Guinness its intense colour while the flavour dances upon the palate, an excellent healthy delight.

Water from the mountains of Wicklow in Ireland adds to this super drink, Wicklow is where me Mam was born, may I add. Every pint is a tribute to her memory; ah yes, Sláinte Mam!

Back in the day, while in hospital, me Mams Mam was prescribed a glass of stout a day for its beneficial properties.

A super drink not to everyone’s taste popular throughout the world for hundreds of years, this stout is no fad!

Many say a meal in a glass they are unable to finish. Well why take it from the barrel and waste this pint of wonder Yea ejit, children are starvin’ around the world!

Aye, that does get a strange look; however, they get the drift.

Sláinte folks!
