My First Time in Ireland and Why I Didn’t Go to Dublin

With all the reasons to go there next time

In this Monthly Challenge for Globetrotters pub, I am more than excited to write on the topic: “Let’s Show Some Green”, with a kick of St. Patrick’s Day, Ireland, and my experience on my first time in one of the most beautiful places in Europe.

A few months after I moved to Boston, MA, in March 2018, the company I work for scheduled a trip to their headquarters in Cork and Limerick, both in Ireland.

We then traveled to training sessions, we visited the Innovation Lab, and the manufactory did a lot of team-building activities and had time to drink some beers as well! Beer is not my favorite type of drink, but the Guinness in Ireland is definitely something else compared to the US.

In order to celebrate the challenge for Globettroters, I will share some of my favorite photos below.

We visited the Jameson factory, in Midleton (not the one in Dublin), and we were able to try a new flavor of whiskey.

We explored the green on day trips during the two weekends we had there:

We visited remote and cold sites:

Since it was a business trip and we had back-to-back training sessions, we haven’t included Dublin in the itinerary. Everyone I talked to recommended going to Dublin, even for a day or two. I also had a time constraint with my visa to return to the US earlier than the rest of the team, so I couldn’t extend my trip.

I believe that if one really wants to explore a city or a place that one is very interested in, one shouldn’t rush to get it done just to “check a box”.

I’d like to go to Dublin for more days to explore the neighbourhoods, try foods, and get lost in the streets.

Ireland is beautiful and has so much to offer! My next stop in Ireland will be in Dublin, no doubt! Do you have any recommendations? Leave them in the comments.

If I could summarize Ireland in one sentence, it would be:

How can one be unhappy in a country where every place is so green and colorful?

And before you leave, I’d like to recommend two articles from the Monthly Challenge.

The first one is “The Color of My Childhood” by Krasi Shapkarova, where she talks about her beautiful landscapes in Bulgaria:

The second one is the piece “After Celebrating St Patrick’s Day in New York And Brazil, I Finally Made It To The Emerald Isle And Celebrated This Special Irish Day In Dublin”, where TRAVEL STORIES BY GABE talks about the differences between spending St. Patricks in different places, highlighting Ireland, of course! 😉

If you want to read more of the stories about St. Patrick's, go check Globetrotters.
