My First Room Ever
Free verse poetry on pregnancy

The day you had a baby shower, I knew I’ll get to be born. Thank god you didn’t abort me, to kill me in your womb.
I am happy to be in this world mom, but the gestation period was great. How dad would sing poems to me, and aunt would bake me a cake.
I knew you had a tough time, tackling nausea and morning sickness. Going through these new experiences, bravely covering your pain.
Sorry for the torture you went through when the birthing process was due. Just a cut to the umbilical cord and I could see my mom thanking god.
Bhavna Narula, 2021.
The above poem is dedicated to all the mothers who gave birth either through normal delivery or a C-section. Needless to say, both processes are extremely painful and taxing. Yet our moms chose to give us a chance to stay in this world and experience ‘life.’
What to say about moms, they are just out of this world. If not for yourself, but for them, value your life. Be thankful to them for going through so much for you and only expecting your good in return. That’s too much of goodness, which we humans obviously are not designed to take.
Otherwise, why on earth would moms be resting in an old-age home instead of our heart, where they deserve a special place of their own.
