My First Month as a Solopreneur, Income, Stats, and Big Changes in Life

Here is what happened in July 2022

I used to share my monthly updates regularly, but the war in my homeland Ukraine drastically changed my life.

I am still figuring out how to protect my family and what to do with my future. My peaceful life in Budapest for years won’t be the same anymore. I will soon move out and start building my life in a new country.

Life goes on.

I am strong enough to face all challenges now.

So, I am returning with the monthly updates on Medium I’ll regularly publish in my Self Made Millennials publication.

My first month as a full-time solopreneur

I won’t deny that I am incredibly excited about this career shift.

I’ve worked on my writing side hustles for two years before I could afford to make this move.

That’s why I fearlessly quit my full-time job cause I knew I’d make as much (if not more) working solo. It’s an unbelievable dream for me that finally came true.

My friends and family call me jobless cause they don’t understand what I am doing for a living.

They see me staring at my laptop daily, loudly typing something on the keyboard. They still can’t admit that anyone can make money working on something they like from home. They did not have this opportunity in the past. Now, we do. The sky is the limit.

I own my time and plan my schedule according to my most productive hours.

Solopreneurship is not about working a few hours a week from Bali (at least from the very beginning).

Solopreneurship requires sharp discipline. Otherwise, it’s easy to fail. However, I no longer consider a failure as an endpoint. Instead, it’s an opportunity to improve.

July 2022 was my take-off.

Let me show you what I did and achieved.

I am sharing it not to brag (many creators earn much more than me) but to inspire and motivate you to work on your own success story.

Three-figure ebook sales without advertising

I’ve made $300 selling my SEO writing ebook on Gumroad without advertising it.

I am not active on Twitter and Linkedin. I occasionally mention my ebook in my Medium posts and Quora answers.

I don’t advertise it via email because I’ve just set up the Convertkit welcome series and automation.

Nevertheless, I made easy $300 in July.

I realized my readers want to know how to create content that ranks high on Google. That’s exactly what my ebook teaches. I am happy to see it performs pretty well.

Selling books on Gumroad can be a powerful (almost) passive income source if all processes are set up correctly. That’s why I am working on setting up an automated sales funnel to boost ebook sales.

Producing more content to get more eyeballs and sales is not an appealing strategy for me. Instead, I want to prioritize the TOFU (top of the sales funnel) and let email automation nurture my audience.

Too many great ideas! I’ll update you on my progress in August.

24,661 views, 9 stories, and $700+ on Medium as of July 29th

I’ve been writing on Medium for two years, but the platform has only recently become rewarding for me.

I used to make $100. Now, I consistently earn at least five times more.

I made over $700 on Medium in July 2022 by publishing 9 stories (the 10th story will go live soon).

It’s a message to those who think the quantity wins.

Writing garbage will never make you rich.

Furthermore, good articles often fail on Medium for various reasons, like a poor title or a wrong publication.

As a 4X Medium TOP writer, I would say the strategy wins. You test different approaches and follow the ones that work. That’s how I write on Medium these days.

It’s just one of my many income sources, but I am dedicated to growing it even further.

My website, collaborations, and more

If you have followed me for a while, you know that I launched Self Made Millennials website a year ago.

Back then, I thought it would be my portfolio and an excellent environment for my marketing experiments.

I quickly changed my mind.

Now, Self Made Millennials is a go-to website to develop SEO writing skills, make money writing online, and build a profitable blog.

I’ve worked on my website next to my full-time job for a long time. Now, the times have changed.

I am dedicated to growing it and writing helpful guides and case studies for my readers.

In July, I started working with a designer to give my website a new and professional look. I hope we will be done with the website redesign by the end of August.

Meanwhile, I landed a few collaborations via my website and Medium.

In July, I helped a fellow Medium writer, Alex Artenie, create a compelling sales copy for his Beginner Guide on Investment that he sells on Gumroad. Furthermore, we created a powerful content strategy that will help him boost ebook sales in the future.

Apart from that, I concluded some guest post deals for my website.
